The Story of Shambala
The "Shambala" cabin in the forest was born from a recycling project. We used over 2,500 beer and soda cans in its construction, which serve as insulation. The cans trap air inside, allowing the cabin to stay cool when it's hot and warm when there's a fire. This efficient building method not only provides comfort but also contributes to cleaning up our planet.
The campsite has composting toilets, meaning we separate solid waste from liquids to prevent ammonia from urine from mixing with feces and causing unpleasant odors. Solid waste accumulates in a designated area for decomposition, while liquid waste is mixed with water and treated in an artificial wetland.
This method helps us protect the environment without contaminating the water, using a simple solution that is common in many national parks in Europe.
At La Frontera, we also have a gas-powered hot shower that is always available.
